BOSTON – A Coast Guard MH-60T Jayhawk aircrew medevac a woman passenger from the cruise ship Carnival Legend 180 nautical miles from Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Monday, September 4, 2023.
At 6:35 p.m., Coast Guard 1st District command center watchstanders received a report from the cruise ship Carnival Legend that a woman on board the vessel was experiencing abdominal pains and had been vomiting throughout the day. The Carnival Legend was in route to Greenland from Cape Cod.
A Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod, Massachusetts, MH-60T Jayhawk Medium-Range Recovery Helicopter aircrew and a HH-144 Ocean Sentry crew were launched to assist.
At 10:25 p.m., the MH-60 Jayhawk MRR helicopter aircrew arrived on scene, deployed the rescue swimmer and safely hoisted patient and the cruise ship nurse. At around 11 p.m. the rescue helicopter aircrew finished the hoist operation and headed to land to transport the patient to land.
The patient and nurse were transferred to emergency medical services (EMS) personnel at 12:05 a.m.
