ALAMEDA, California. — A Coast Guard Air Station Ventura MH-60T Jayhawk aircrew medevac a mariner (man) from a cargo vessel 185 nautical miles offshore San Francisco, Tuesday evening. June 10, 2025.
Coast Guard 11th District watchstanders received a call at approximately 10 a.m. Sunday, from the captain of the cargo ship Aetos reporting that a 40-year-old crew member aboard was exhibiting symptoms of appendicitis approximately 820 nautical miles offshore.
Watchstanders advised the captain to meet at a rendezvous point and coordinated the launch of a MH-60T Jayhawk Medium-Range Recovery Helicopter aircrew from Air Station Ventura. The MH-60 aircrew transited to Air Station San Francisco to refuel and began their flight to the Aetos approximately 5 p.m. Tuesday.
The Air Station Ventura MH-60T Jayhawk MRR Helicopter aircrew arrived on scene 185 miles offshore San Francisco at approximately 7 p.m., hoisted the patient into the helicopter and began their transit to San Francisco International Airport.

The rescue aircrew landed at SFO and transferred the patient to awaiting emergency medical services (EMS) at approximately 9 p.m., Tuesday.
