NEW ORLEANS — The Coast Guard is scheduled to set safety zones in the Mississippi River, Saturday, near St. Paul, Minnesota during a Red Bull sponsored event.
This zone will be in effect on Saturday, September 7, 2019 from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
Vessels other than participants and spectators will be unable to transit through the designated spectator area from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. without permission from the Coast Guard Captain of the Port.
During this time spectator vessels are allowed to anchor within the designated spectator area to watch the event. However, all spectator vessels must disperse the area by 4:30 p.m. local time because the channel will be reopened to all vessel traffic.
Within the regulated area, vessels other than participants are prohibited from entering the primary exclusion area adjacent to the shoreline at Harriet Island Park on the right descending bank.
Vessels other than commercial vessels are prohibited from entering the secondary exclusion area adjacent to the right descending bank extending from the marked primary exclusion area north to the center span of the Smith Avenue Bridge unless transiting to or from St. Paul Yacht club.
As a safety precaution, a designated Coast Guard patrol commander will be on scene working in partnership with partner law enforcement entities. The patrol commander can control the movement of all vessels in the regulated area and may forbid entry. When hailed or signaled by an official patrol vessel, a vessel in the zone is required to immediately comply with the directions given. Uncooperative boaters may be expelled from the zone, cited for failure to comply, or both. Federal, state and local agencies may assist the Coast Guard in the patrol and enforcement of the regulated area.
The Coast Guard may be contacted on VHF-FM Channel 16, or the Sector Upper Mississippi River at 314-269-2332. For further information mariners may contact Coast Guard Sector Upper Mississippi River at 314-269-2500.
