SAN DIEGO — A Coast Guard MH-60T Jayhawk helicopter aircrew medevac an 88-year-old woman passenger from the cruise ship Queen Victoria approximately 150 nautical miles west offshore San Diego, Monday morning. January 5, 2024.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector San Diego Joint Harbor Operations Center received a distress call from the Queen Victoria at approximately 7:20 a.m., reporting that a passenger was experiencing a medical emergency. In response to the distress call, it was determined that the patient required immediate higher-level medical care.
Coast Guard Sector San Diego launched an Air Station San Diego MH-60T Jayhawk Medium-Range Recovery Helicopter aircrew with an embarked Specialized Trauma Assistance Team (STAR) medic to rendezvous with the vessel and retrieve the patient, and patient’s family member.
Additionally, Coast Guard Sector San Diego requested a Coast Guard HC-130 Hercules aircrew to provide asset coverage considering the offshore distance.
The Coast Guard MRR helicopter and the response airplane arrived on scene and inmediately the MH-60 Jayhawk aircrew deployed the rescue swimmer that successfully hoisted the woman and his familiar. Once onboard the rescue helicopter aircrew headed to land and transported the passengers to a emergency medical services (EMS) awaiting at local hospital.
The 88-year-old patient was reported to be in stable condition.
