NEW ORLEANS – A Coast Guard NOLA MH-60T Jayhawk aircrew medevac a 31-year-old mariner (male) from a bulk carrier vessel approximately 63 nautical miles offshore from Southwest Pass, Louisiana. Wednesday, May 29, 2024.
At approximately 7 p.m. Coast Guard 8th District watchstanders received a phone call from the bulk carrier vessel Ocean Destiny requesting a medevac for a 31-year-old man reportedly experiencing a medical emergency.
Coast Guard Heartland watchstanders coordinated the launch of a Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-60T Jayhawk Medium-Range Recovery Helicopter aircrew to conduct the medical evacuation and a Coast Guard Aviation Training Center Mobile HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircrew to provide communications.
The aircrews arrived on-scene, the MH-60 Jayhawk MRR Helicopter aircrew deployed the rescue swimmer, safely hoisted the man aboard, and transported him to awaiting emergency medical services (EMS) personnel awaiting at University Medical Center in New Orleans.
The man was last reported in serious condition.
