ASTORIA, Ore. — A Coast Guard MH-65E Dolphin helicopter aircrew from Air Facility Newport conducted the rescue of a hiker who was trapped on a cliff side at God’s Thumb in Lincoln City, Oregon, Saturday, March 14, 2026.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Columbia River were contacted by North Lincoln Fire and Rescue who requested assistance removing a hiker from a cliff after it was determined they would be unable to safely conduct the evolution using their high-angle rescue team.
The Coast Guard MH-65E Dolphin Short-Range Recovery Helicopter aircrew safely hoisted the individual and transported them to Samaritan North Lincoln Hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
“This case was a great example of our strong partnership with Lincoln County Fire and Rescue,” said flight mechanic, Coast Guard Petty Officer Second Class Gavin Battle. “We’re happy the individual was reunited with his family.”
