MIAMI — A Coast Guard Air Station Miami MH-65E Dolphin helicopter aircrew medevac a mariner (man) with an arm injury from a 100-foot supply vessel approximately 70 nautical miles southeast of Key West. Thursday, June 26, 2025.
Coast Guard 7th District (Coast Guard Southeast) watchstanders received the initial report approximately 3:20 p.m.
The Coast Guard watchstanders diverted an Air Station Miami HC-144 Ocean Sentry airplane aircrew on patrol to assisted during the medevac mission..
Once on the scene, the MH-65E Dolphin Short-Range Recovery Helicopter aircrew deployed the rescue swimmer, safely hoisted the injured mariner and transported him to emergency medical services (EMS) personnel awaiting at Jackson Memorial Hospital for a higher level of care.

“This case highlighted the complex coordination and teamwork the U.S. Coast Guard employs to carry out dynamic missions,” said Lt. Cmdr. Josh Forteza, a MH-65 pilot and aircraft commander. “Diverting an airborne HC-144 aircraft crew allowed critical information to be relayed quickly to the MH-65 crew, enabling us to arrive on scene nearly 70 miles offshore, fully prepared to conduct the medevac of a critically ill patient. Coordination with Coast Guard Seventh District watchstanders and hospital staff ensured a smooth transfer of care.”
