HONOLULU – A Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point MH-65E Dolphin aircrew medevac an ailing woman from a cruise ship 70 nautical miles offshore Oahu. Tuesday, November 5, 2024.

Joint Rescue Coordination Center Honolulu (JRCC) watchstanders received a phone call at 6 p.m. Monday from personnel aboard the Grand Princess, a Princess Cruises ship, requesting a medevac for a 29-year-old woman experiencing symptoms of appendicitis approximately 570 nautical miles northeast of Kauai.

Coast Guard watchstanders consulted with the duty flight surgeon, who recommended the medical evacuation.

At 6:17 p.m. Tuesday, a Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point MH-65E Dolphin Short-Range Recovery Helicopter aircrew rendezvoused with the Grand Princess about 70 nautical miles east of Kaneohe, Hawaii.

The MH-65 Dolphin SRR Helicopter aircrew deployed the rescue swimmer, hoisted the ailing woman and transported her to The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu.

The patient was reportedly in stable condition.
