HOUSTON — A Coast Guard MH-65E Dolphin aircrew medevac a 62-year-old sailor (male) who sustained an injury aboard a sailboat approximately 10 nautical miles south of Sabine, Texas, on Thursday, May 23, 2024.

Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders received a relay from Vessel Traffic Services Port Arthur personnel at 10:01 p.m., stating that a tanker crewman witnessed two adults waving for help aboard a 45-foot sailboat.

U.S. Coast Guard watchstanders issued an urgent marine information broadcast (UMIB) and directed the launch of an MH-65E Dolphin Short-Range Recovery Helicopter aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Houston and a 45-foot Response Boat–Medium crew from Coast Guard Station Sabine.

The Coast Guard boatcrew arrived on scene at 11:18 p.m. and embarked the boaters, one of whom sustained a lower body injury. The Coast Guard Air Station Houston MH-65 Dolphin SRR Helicopter aircrew then safely hoisted the man, from the Response Boat-Medium (RB-M), and transported him to Ellington Field and into the care of emergency medical services (EMS) personnel.
