CHARLESTON, S.C. — A Coast Guard MH-65E Dolphin helicopter aircrew medevac a crewman from a NOAA survey vessel 51 nautical miles offshore Charleston, South Carolina. Sunday, October 8, 2023.
Coast Guard Sector Charleston watchstanders received a report at 11:50 a.m. from the captain of the Thomas Jefferson, a 208-foot National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) survey vessel, stating a 43-year-old crew member suffered a severe laceration to their arm. Watchstanders consulted with the duty flight surgeon, who recommended a medevac.
Watchstanders directed the launch of a Coast Guard Air Station Savannah MH-65E Dolphin Short-Range Recovery Helicopter aircrew to conduct the medevac.
The MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew arrived on scene, deployed the rescue swimmer, hoisted the man and transported him to the emergency medical services (EMS) personnel awaiting at Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
The man was last reported to be in stable condition.
