HOUSTON — A Coast Guard MH-65E Dolphin helicopter aircrew rescue three boaters stranded on a jetty near Galveston, Texas. Thursday, September 14, 2023,

Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston Command Center watchstanders received a phone call at 8:24 a.m. from a concerned family member that two men and one woman were stranded on Bolivar Peninsula after their 20-foot pleasure craft became disabled and drifted into a jetty. All three boaters were wearing life jackets

Watchstanders directed the launch of a 29-foot Response Boat–Small crew from Coast Guard Station Galveston and an MH-65E Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Houston.

Once on scene, the MH-65 Dolphin SRR helicopter crew rescued the three boaters from the jetty and brought them ashore to Bolivar Beach. The men were reportedly uninjured. The boat’s owner has arranged for the vessel’s salvage.

Weather conditions on scene included winds of 15-20 mph and 3-foot seas.

“We urge all boaters to keep a close eye on the weather forecast before and during their voyage,” said U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer 1st Class Charles Zacherl, operations unit controller, Sector Houston-Galveston. “Weather conditions can change and worsen very quickly on the water, and it’s important to be as prepared as possible.”
