HOUSTON – A Coast Guard Air Station Houston MH-65 Dolphin aircrew rescue two boaters after they vessel hit on the North Jetty near Galveston, Texas. Sunday, November 5, 2023.

Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders received a phone call from a good Samaritan at 1:31 a.m. stating a 27-foot pleasure craft ran aground on the North Jetty with two men aboard, both of whom were injured. 

Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders issued an urgent marine information broadcast and directed the launch of a 45-foot Response Boat–Medium crew from Coast Guard Station Galveston and an MH-65E Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Houston.

The MH-65 Dolphin Short-Range Recovery Helicopter aircrew arrived on scene, deployed the rescue swimmer and hoisted one man who had sustained lacerations and a leg injury. Once onboard the SRR Helicopter crew headed to land to transport him to the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston in stable condition.

Galveston County emergency medical services (EMS) personnel escorted the other boater off the jetty on foot and transported him to UTMB Galveston in stable condition.
