HOUSTON — A Coast Guard MH-65E Dolphin aircrew medevacdiver (male) who became ill while diving approximately 100 nautical miles south of Galveston, Texas. Saturday, August 5, 2023.

Coast Guard 8th District watchstanders received a cell phone call at 9:30 a.m. from the captain of a dive boat stating a 29-year-old man was exhibiting symptoms of decompression sickness. Coast Guard watchstanders consulted with the duty flight surgeon, who recommended the medical evacuation (medevac).

An MH-65E Dolphin Short-Range Recovery Helicopter aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Houston diverted from training and an already airborne HC-144 Ocean Sentry airplane aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Corpus Christi to assist.

The MH-65 Dolphin SRR helicopter aircrew arrived on scene at 11:20 a.m. and inmediately deployed the rescue swimmer to hoisted the ailing man and transported him to Memorial Hermann – Texas Medical Center in Houston.

The diver was last reported to be in stable condition.
