U.S. Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi watchstanders received a call at 9:06 a.m. on VHF-FM channel 16 from the captain of the Gulf Eagle stating a passenger was found unconscious. Coast Guard watchstanders consulted with the duty flight surgeon, who recommended a medical evacuation (medevac).

Watchstanders issued an urgent marine information broadcast, diverted an airborne MH-65 Dolphin Short-Range Recovery Helicopter aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Corpus Christi and launched a 45-foot Response Boat–Medium crew Coast Guard Station Port Aransas to conduct the medevac.

The RB-M boatcrew arrived on scene at 9:55 a.m. and embarked the patient, who regained consciousness. The MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew deployed the rescue swimmer to hoist the man from the RB-M and transport him to Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi – Shoreside.

He was last reported to be in stable condition.
