The Coast Guard Sector New Orleans watchstanders received a call around 4:30 p.m. from St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office personnel requesting assistance for a kayaker stranded due to the weather on the Pearl River.
Coast Guard Sector New Orleans watchstanders coordinated the launch of a Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-65 Dolphin Short-Range Recovery Helicopter (SRR) aircrew to search the man. Finally the rescue helicopter crew located the missing man aboard his kayak in the area near Slidell.
Once the MH-65E Dolphin rescue helicopter crew arrived on scene, deployed the rescue swimmer who was responsible for hoisting the kayaker safely into the rescue basket. Once the hoist operation was completed, the MH-65 crew headed for land and transported the rescued man to awaiting emergency medical services (EMS) personnel at Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans.
