HOUSTON — A Coast Guard MH-65 Dolphin aircrew rescue (medevac) a man from a vessel 80 nautical miles south of Galveston, Texas, Friday.

U.S. Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders received a medevac (medical evacuation) request at 2:25 p.m. from the captain of the motor vessel Thor stating a 71-year-old crew member was experiencing tingling in the face, light-headedness and a loss of motor skills. Watchstanders consulted with the duty flight surgeon, who immediately recommended a medevac.

The U.S. Coast Guard watchstanders launched a Coast Guard Air Station Houston MH-65E Dolphin Short-Range Recovery Helicopter aircrew to conduct the medevac and a Coast Guard Air Station Corpus Christi HC-144 Ocean Sentry recovery airplane crew. The fixed-wing aircraft was launched to assist with communications and oversight.

The MH-65E Dolphin helicopter aircrew arrived on scene, deployed the rescue swimmer who safely hoisted the ailing man aboard. Once the hoist operation was finished the rescue helicopter aircrew headed to land and transferred him to awaiting emergency medical service (EMS) personnel at Ellington Field in Houston. The man was reportedly in stable condition.
