NEW ORLEANS — A U.S. Coast Guard MH-65 Dolphin Short-Range Recovery Helicopter aircrew medevac an injured 71-year-old fisherman Tuesday night from a fishing vessel near New Orleans.

The U.S. Coast Guard Sector New Orleans watchstanders received notification by personnel aboard the fishing vessel Mighty Mouse that a crewmember sustained severe injuries to the hand.

The U.S. Coast Guard watchstanders immediately coordinated the launch of a U.S. Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-65 Dolphin Short-Range Recovery Helicopter aircrew to carry out the medevac (medical evacuation) of the injured fisherman and then immediately transport ashore for transfer him to emergency medical services personnel awaiting for provide medical assistance.

The MH-65 Dolphin SRR helicopter aircrew arrived on scene, landed on a nearby platform and loaded the crewmember into the rescue helicopter. Once the MH-65 Dolphin aircrew took off, the helicopter headed for land to transport the injured crew member to emergency medical services (EMS) personnel awaiting un West Jefferson Medical Center in Marrero, Louisiana.

The fishing vessel crew member was last reported in stable condition.
