PORTSMOUTH, Va. — A U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City MH-60T Jayhawk aircrew and HC-130 Hercules aircrew rescue a mariner from a sailing vessel taking on water 155 nautical miles east of Cape Fear, North Carolina. Monday afternoon.

U.S. Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay command center watchstanders received a report of the 73-year-old man aboard the 33-foot sailing vessel Freyja Sunday night and reported that due to heavy weather his vessel was taking on water and needed assistance.

A U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City MH-60T Jayhawk Medium-Range Recovery Helicopter (MRR) aircrew and an HC-130 Hercules rescue aircraft aircrew launched to assist. Once on the scene the MH-60T Jayhawk aircrew deployed the rescue swimmer to safely hoist the mariner from the vessel. The crew of the Hercules HC-130J Super Hercules Long-Range Rescue Aircraft was in charge of maintaining communications between the helicopter and the ground during the long-range rescue.

The Coast Guard MH-60T Jayhawk rescue helicopter aircrew transported the survivor to Wilmington, North Carolina. There were no reported injuries.
