NEW ORLEANS — A Coast Guard MH-60T Jayhawk aircrew rescue six fishermen from two disabled fishing vessels approximately 70 nautical miles east of Venice, Louisiana. Saturday, December 22, 2023.

Coast Guard Sector Mobile watchstanders received a report from a good Samaritan (Friday, December 21) at approximately 6:30 p.m. of fishing vessel Georgia P being disabled approximately 70 nautical miles east of Venice, Louisiana.

The fishing vessel Seahorse crew responded to the tow of fishing vessel Georgia P. During the tow, the Seahorse also became disabled.

Due to the captain aboard the fishing vessel Seahorse not having enough medication to get through the night, degrading weather, and poor communications, all crew members aboard agreed to be removed from their vessels.

Coast Guard Sector Mobile watchstanders coordinated the launch of a Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans Sikorsky MH-60T Jayhawk Medium-Range Recovery Helicopter aircrew to assist.

Once on the scene the Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans helicopter aircrew deployed the rescue swimmer and successfully hoisted the all six people from both vessels. Once the hoist operation was finished, the MH-60 Jayhawk MRR helicopter crew transported the fishermen safely to Gulf Shores International Airport at Jack Edwards Field, Gulf Shores, Alabama.

All six men are reported to be in stable condition.

Salvage plans will be coordinated by the owners.
