JUNEAU, Alaska – A Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak MH-60T Jayhawk aircrew conducted the rescue of two fishermen from a fishing vessel that ran aground in Pasagshak Bay offshore Kodiak. Wednesday, January 21, 2026.
No injuries were reported.
At 7:08 a.m., watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Western Alaska and U.S. Arctic Command center received a report from the fishing vessel Quantum they were taking on water approximately two nautical miles offshore Kodiak.
Coast Guard watchstanders issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast (UMIB), and good Samaritan vessels confirmed two people were on board wearing survival suits.
At 7:19 a.m., watchstanders launched a Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak MH-60T Jayhawk Medium-Range Recovery Helicopter aircrew to conduct the search and rescue mission.
The MH-60 Jayhawk MRR Helicopter aircrew arrived on scene at approximately 8:30 a.m., deployed the rescue swimmer, safely hoisted both crewmembers from the vessel, and transported them to awaiting emergency medical services (EMS) in Kodiak.
“This case showcased the importance of maintaining proper emergency equipment like the survival suits donned by the crew of the Quantum,” said Ens. Anya Charm, command duty officer at Coast Guard Sector Western Alaska and U.S. Arctic Command center.
