NEW ORLEANS — A Coast Guard MH-60T Jayhawk aircrew rescue 2 fishermen from their capsized vessel approximately 2 nautical miles south of Point Au Fer Island, Louisiana. Thursday, July 13, 2023.
U.S. Coast Guard Sector New Orleans watchstanders received a report from St. Mary 911 dispatch of a 35-foot fishing vessel taking on water with two people aboard at approximately 10:24 p.m. Thursday evening.
Coast Guard Sector New Orleans watchstanders coordinated the launch of a Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-60T Jayhawk Medium-Range Recovery Helicopter aircrew to assist.
The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office and St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office also launched small boat crews.
The Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk MRR helicopter aircrew located the capsized vessel with the two boaters standing on the hull, deployed the rescue swimmer, hoisted the boaters onto the aircraft, and transported them to the Houma-Terrebonne Airport.
Both boaters were last reported to be in stable condition.
