CLEARWATER, Fla. — A Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater MH-60T Jayhawk helicopter aircrew medevac a 58-year-old mariner (man) experiencing severe abdominal pain approximately 170 nautical miles southwest of Clearwater. Thursday, May 22, 2025.

The man was safely transported to Tampa General Hospital for a higher level of care.

Coast Guard 8th District (Heartland) watchstanders received a phone call at 9:44 a.m. from the Seven Oceans, a commercial pipe laying vessel, reporting a crew member experiencing a medical emergency.

Due to the vessel’s location, Coast Guard 8th District watchstanders requested assistance from the 7th District (Southeast). Watchstanders coordinated the launch of an Air Station Clearwater MH-60T Jayhawk Medium-Range Recovery Helicopter aircrew to conduct the medevac mission and a C-27J Spartan aircrew to support.

“This case is a testament to the seamless coordination between Coast Guard districts where multiple watchstanders and aircrews worked to swiftly ensure the patient received the higher level of medical care they urgently needed,” said Mr. Sean Connett, Coast Guard 7th District command duty officer. “It’s a powerful example of how our training, communication, and commitment come together to save lives.”
