SAN DIEGO — A Coast Guard Sector San Diego MH-60T Jayhawk aircrew medevac a fisherman from a charter fishing vessel approximately 40 nautical miles west of Point Loma, San Diego. Thursday, September 14, 2023, at morning.

At approximately 3:30 a.m., Coast Guard Sector San Diego watchstanders received a distress call from the fishing vessel Ranger 85, reporting a medical emergency. A 68-year-old male crewmember suffered a laceration and was bleeding.

Additionally, the man’s blood pressure was reported to be elevated, and it was determined that he required a higher level of medical care. In response, Coast Guard Air Station San Diego launched an MH-60T Jayhawk Medium-Range Recovery Helicopter crew.

After arriving on the scene, the MH-60 Jayhawk aircrew deployed the rescue swimmer to hoist the man onto the helicopter. Once the crew finished the hoist operation the rescue helicopter returned to Coast Guard Sector San Diego where the patient was transferred to emergency medical services (EMS) personnel for further medical treatment.

The man was reported to be in stable condition.
