SAN DIEGO — Coast Guard Sector San Diego MH-60T Jayhawk helicopter aircrew rescue (medevac) mariner from a charter fishing vessel approximately 55 nautical miles west of Point Loma. Thursday, October 12, 2023.
At approximately 1 p.m., Coast Guard Sector San Diego watchstanders received a distress call from the charter fishing vessel, Legend, reporting a medical emergency.
A 79-year-old male passenger lost consciousness and fell, signs of a heart attack.
Sector San Diego watchstanders determined that the passenger required a higher level of medical care as soon as possible. In response, the Air Station San Diego launched a Coast Guard MH-60T Jayhawk Medium-Range Recovery Helicopter aircrew to assist.
The MH-60 Jayhawk MRR Helicopter aircrew arrived on scene, deployed the rescue swimmer, successfully hoisted the patient, and transported him to emergency medical services (EMS) personnel awaiting at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla.
