PORTSMOUTH, V.A. — A Coast Guard MH-60T Jayhawk rescue helicopter aircrew medevac a crew member from a container vessel 57 nautical miles east of Hatteras, North Carolina, Sunday morning.

The watchstanders at U.S. Coast Guard District Five Command Center in Portsmouth received a call just before 4 a.m. from the container vessel Ivar Reefer stating a crew member had sustained a serious hand injury while working in the engine room and required medical assistance.

The Coast Guard 5th District command center launched an aircrew aboard an MH-60T Jayhawk Medium-Range Recovery Helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City.

Once on the scene the MH-60T MRR helicopter crew deployed the rescue swimmer who met the Ivar Reefer offshore and hoisted the crew member aboard.

The MH-60 Jayhawk Medium-Range Recovery Helicopter aircrew picked up an injured crew member from the container vessel and transported her to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia.

The injured crew member was taken to Norfolk Sentara General Hospital in Norfolk to receive medical assistance.
