CLEARWATER, Fla. — A Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater MH-60T Jayhawk helicopter aircrew rescue (medical evacuation) a woman after she suffered a back injury while on a 34-foot boat, 73 miles west of Hernando Beach. Tuesday, August 22, 2023.
Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg watchstanders were notified that a 42-year-old woman suffered a back injury after the vessel took a wave and she fell to the deck.
The Sector St. Petersburg watchstanders launched a Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater MH-60T Jayhawk Medium-Range Recovery Helicopter aircrew to perform the medevac.
Once the MH-60 Jayhawk MRR helicopter aircrew arrived on scene deployed the rescue swimmer, hoisted the woman and transferred her to emergency medical services (EMS) personnel awaiting at Tampa General Hospital to receive a higher level of medical care.
The patient condition is unknown at this time.
“The aircrew was able to properly evacuate the injured woman thanks to the detailed report from the vessel’s captain,” said Petty Officer 1st Class Destin Dinapolis, Sector St. Petersburg command center watchstander. “Our crews are highly trained and highly capable of executing their duties at a moments notice.»
