Coast Guard MH-60T crew rescue sailor  17 nm off Dulac

NEW ORLEANS — The Coast Guard rescue sailor, the captain of a sailing vessel, approximately 17 nautical miles offshore Dulac, Louisiana, Tuesday. 

U.S. Coast Guard Sector New Orleans watchstanders received a call at 10:44 a.m. on VHF-FM channel 16 from the captain of the sailing vessel stating that he had injured his shoulder after falling due to rough seas. Being unable to safely navigate the sailing vessel, the captain requested to Coast Guard watchstanders a medical evacuation (medevac).

Coast Guard Sector New Orleans watchstanders then coordinated the launch of a Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-60T Jayhawk Medium-Range Recovery Helicopter aircrew to assist. 

The MH-60 Jayhawk MRR helicopter aircrew arrived on scene and deployed the rescue swimmer to perform rescue and the hoist of captain. Once onboard, the rescue helicopter aircrew headed to land to transport and transfer him to emergency medical services (EMS) personnel awaiting at University Medical Center in New Orleans.
