In total, a Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater MH-60T Jayhawk MRR helicopter aircrew, a Coast Guard Station Sand Key Response Boat-Medium crew, Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations (CBP AMO) boatcrew, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation, Pinellas County Sheriff, Pasco County Sheriff, Sarasota County Sheriff, Manatee County Sheriff, and Venice Police department marine units held the joint search and rescue (SAR) training exercise performed off Sand Key, Florida.
The crews was trained in hoist operations with the Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater MH-60T Jayhawk Medium-Range Recovery Helicopter aircrew. The response boat crew from the Coast Guard Station Sand Key and the participants from partner agencies trained with their own vessels. The search and rescue training included medevac operations with rescue basket.
Hoisting a person off a vessel is one of the worst and difficult case scenarios on the water.
It is important to train before the emergency so rescue boat operators will know how their vessel will respond to rotor wash and ensure communication between the helicopter crew and vessel is streamlined.
