HOUSTON — A Coast Guard MH-65 Dolphin aircrew medevac an 85-year-old passenger (male) from a cruise ship 24 nautical miles off Galveston, Texas. Sunday, May 19, 2024.

U.S. Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders received a medical evacuation (medevac) request at 6:30 p.m. from a crew member aboard the Royal Caribbean cruise ship Harmony of the Seas stating an 85-year-old male passenger reportedly sustained a head injury due to a fall aboard the vessel.

U.S. Coast Guard watchstanders consulted with the duty flight surgeon, who recommended the medical evacuation.

An already-airborne Coast Guard Air Station Houston MH-65E Dolphin Short-Range Recovery Helicopter aircrew was diverted to conduct the medevac mission.

The MH-65 Dolphin SRR helicopter aircrew arrived on scene, deployed the rescue swimmer, safely hoisted the man and transported him to emergency medical services (EMS) personnel awaiting at University of Texas Medical Branch, in Galveston, in stable condition.
