NEW ORLEANS — A Coast Guard MH-60T Jayhawk aircrew medevac a 48-year-old male crewmember from an oil tanker vessel Tuesday approximately 58 nautical miles southwest of Southwest Pass, Louisiana.
U.S. Coast Guard Sector New Orleans watchstanders received a call at 4:58 a.m. from the oil tanker vessel PGC IKAROS personnel stating a crewmember fell and sustained injuries to his arm.
The U.S. Coast Guard Sector New Orleans watchstanders coordinated the launch of a Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-60T Jayhawk Medium-Range Recovery Helicopter (MRR) aircrew to assist, and directed the PGC IKAROS to make way toward Southwest Pass to close the distance between the ship and the rescue helicopter aircrew.
The MH-60 Jayhawk rescue helicopter aircrew arrived on scene, inmediately deployed the rescue swimmer, hoisted the crewmember and, once onboard, the rescue aircrew headed to land to transport and transfer the patient to emergency medical services (EMS) personnel awaiting at Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans in Belle Chasse, Louisiana.
The crewmember was transferred to awaiting emergency medical services personnel at Air Station New Orleans in stable condition.
