
The Coast Guard has committed numerous air and surface assets to conduct medical evacuations from Haiti following the 7.2 magnitude earthquake.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A Coast Guard MH-60T Jayhawk aircrew medevac a 60-year-old male passenger aboard the fishing vessel American Patriot 57 nautical miles west of Gordon Pass near Naples, Friday.
A U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater MH-60 Jayhawk Medium-Range Recovery Helicopter (MRR) aircrew was launched to scene, once over the fishing vessel deployed the rescue swimmer, hoisted the patient and his two adult sons and headed to land to transfer them to emergency medical services (EMS) personnel awaiting at Gulf Coast Hospital in Fort Myers.
The patient was reported in stable condition.
At approximately 8 p.m., a crewmember reported via marine radio channel 16 to U.S. Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg watchstanders the man was having difficulty breathing. The Coast Guard encourages all mariners to have reliable forms of communication in the event of emergencies.
The rescue helicopter aircrew hoisted the patient and his two adult sons, and transferred them to Gulf Coast Hospital in Fort Myers in stable condition.
