JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Coast Guard MH-60T Jayhawk aircrew, with the support of an HC-130 Hercules aircrew, medevac a 49-year-old man aboard a cruise ship, Tuesday, 230 nautical miles east of Port Canaveral, Florida.
A cruise ship crewmember notified Coast Guard 7th District watchstanders at approximately 2 p.m., via satellite phone call, stating a man had an urgent medical concern and required a medical evacuation (medevac).
The Coast Guard 7th District watchstanders launched a Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater MH-60T Jayhawk Medium-Range Recovery Helicopter aircrew and an HC-130 Hercules airplane crew to conducts the long range SAR mission. Once on the scene the MH-60 aircrew deployed a rescue swimmer to safely hoist the patient onboard. Once the hoist operation was finished the rescue helicopter aircrew headed to land to transfer the man to emergency medical services (EMS) personnel awaiting at Holmes Regional Medical Center for further medical care.
«This medevac was an excellent display of our crew’s teamwork,» said Lt. Nate Jones, Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater flight commander. «The unit watchstanders’ logistical planning, HC-130 aircrew communications relay and multiple demanding hoist evolutions by the helicopter aircrew resulted in the saving of a life.»
The man was taken to Regional Medical Center for further medical care.
