HONOLULU – A Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point MH-65E Dolphin aircrew medevac an ailing man from a cruise ship 50 nautical miles offshore Oahu. Tuesday, November 26, 2024.
Joint Rescue Coordination Center Honolulu (JRCC) watchstanders received a notification at 10 a.m. Monday from the senior doctor aboard the Zaandam, a Holland America Line cruise ship, requesting a medevac for a 32-year-old man experiencing symptoms of a stroke approximately 330 nautical miles northeast of Oahu.
Watchstanders consulted with the duty flight surgeon, who recommended the medical evacuation.
At 3:15 a.m. Tuesday, an MH-65E Dolphin Short-Range Recovery Helicopter aircrew and an HC-130 Hercules airplane aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point rendezvoused with the Zaandam about 50 nautical miles east of Kaneohe, Hawaii.
The rescue helicopter aircrew hoisted the ailing man from the Zaandam, a Holland America Line cruise ship, after he experienced stroke-like symptoms.

Once on the scene the MH-65 Dolphin SRR Helicopter aircrew deployed the rescue swimmer, hoisted the ailing man and a nurse from the Zaandam to provide in-flight care.
The rescue helicopter aircrew transported the patient to The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu in reportedly stable condition.
