HONOLULU – A Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point MH-65E Dolphin aircrew medevac an ailing man from a cruise ship 50 nautical miles offshore Oahu. Tuesday, November 26, 2024.
Joint Rescue Coordination Center Honolulu (JRCC) watchstanders received a notification at 10 a.m. Monday from the senior doctor aboard the Zaandam, a Holland America Line cruise ship, requesting a medevac for a 32-year-old man experiencing symptoms of a stroke approximately 330 nautical miles northeast of Oahu.
Watchstanders consulted with the duty flight surgeon, who recommended the medical evacuation.
At 3:15 a.m. Tuesday, an MH-65E Dolphin Short-Range Recovery Helicopter aircrew and an HC-130 Hercules airplane aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point rendezvoused with the Zaandam about 50 nautical miles east of Kaneohe, Hawaii.
Once on the scene the MH-65 Dolphin SRR Helicopter aircrew deployed the rescue swimmer, hoisted the ailing man and a nurse from the Zaandam to provide in-flight care.
The rescue helicopter aircrew transported the patient to The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu in reportedly stable condition.
