HONOLULU – The Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point MH-65E Dolphin helicopter aircrews conducted two consecutive medevac missions for two ailing men from the same cruise ship 50 nautical miles off Cape Kumukahi, Hawaii. Saturday, October 5, 2024.
Joint Rescue Coordination Center Honolulu (JRCC) watchstanders received a phone call at 6 p.m. Friday from personnel aboard the cruise ship Crown Princess, Princess Cruises, requesting two medical evacuations for a 70-year-old man experiencing heart attack-like symptoms and an 86-year-old man experiencing internal bleeding.
Coast Guard watchstanders consulted with the duty flight surgeon, who inmediately recommended the medevac for both patients.
At 9 a.m. Saturday, an MH-65E Dolphin Short-Range Recovery Helicopter aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point rendezvoused with the cruise ship Crown Princess about 50 nautical miles offshore Cape Kumukahi.

The MH-65E Dolphin SRR Helicopter aircrew deployed the rescue swimmer, hoisted the 70-year-old man and transported him to Hilo Medical Center in stable condition.
A second Coast Guard MH-65 Dolphin aircrew then hoisted the 86-year-old patient with support of the rescue swimmer and, once onboard, transported him to Hilo Medical Center in stable condition.
