The Coast Guard rescued two men after a 12-foot fishing vessel capsized offshore Keaau Beach Park.

HONOLULU – A Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point MH-65E Dolphin helicopter aircrew conducted the rescue of two fishermen after their 12-foot fishing vessel capsized offshore Keaau Beach Park, Oahu. Friday, July 3, 2026.
The Coast Guard MH-65E Dolphin Short-Range Recovery Helicopter aircrew, from Air Station Barbers Point, located the two boaters sitting on an overturned vessel. The rescue helicopter aircrew deployed the rescue swimmer, safely hoisted them using the rescue basket and brought them ashore to the air station in Kapolei, Hawaii.
Coast Guard Joint Rescue Coordination Center Honolulu (JRCC) watchstanders received a Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) alert at 1:58 p.m., indicating positions along the west side of Oahu. Both men were wearing life jackets.
Watchstanders issued an urgent marine information broadcast (UMIB) and directed the launch of the MH-65E Dolphin SRR Helicopter aircrew from Air Station Barbers Point.
Coast Guard Joint Rescue Coordination Center Honolulu watchstanders received a Personal Locater Beacon alert.

At 3:27 p.m., the helicopter aircrew located the overturned vessel and two men.
“Preparedness can significantly reduce the risks when something goes wrong on the water,» said Petty Officer 1st Class Mykeela Ruff, operations unit watchstander, Coast Guard Oceania District. «By wearing a life jacket and carrying a PLB on your person, it instantly alerts the Coast Guard to your position, drastically cutting down search times.”
