HONOLULU – A Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point MH-65E Dolphin aircrew medevac a fisherman from a fishing vessel 8 nautical miles northeast of Honokaa, Hawaii. Monday, December 23, 2024.
Coast Guard Sector Honolulu watchstanders received a notification at 3:22 p.m. Monday from the Captain of the fishing vessel HONUA-OE, requesting a medevac for a 51-year-old man who fell into a porthole and sustained an injury to his abdomen, while the vessel was approximately 20 nautical miles north of Hawi, Hawaii.
Sector Honolulu watchstanders consulted with the duty flight surgeon, who inmediately recommended a medical evacuation.
At 8 p.m. Monday, a Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point MH-65E Dolphin Short-Range Recovery Helicopter aircrew rendezvoused with the crew of the HONUA-OE, offshore of Honokaa, Hawaii.
Once on the scene, the MH-65 Dolphin SRR Helicopter aircrew deployed the rescue swimmer, safely hoisted the ailing man and transported him to the airport in Hilo, where he was transferred to emergency medical services (EMS) to receive a higher level of care. The patient is reportedly in stable condition.
