SEATTLE – A Coast Guard Air Station Astoria MH-60T Jayhawk helicopter aircrew conducted the rescue of a man (boater) trapped in a swampy marsh near Plumb, South of Olympia, Washington. Tuesday, July 8, 2025.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Northwest District Command Center were contacted by Thurston County Dispatch who requested assistance in rescuing a man who became stuck in a marsh wetland in Plumb, Washington.
Once on the scene, the Coast Guard Air Station Astoria MH-60T Jayhawk Medium-Range Recovery Helicopter aircrew deployed the rescue swimmer and safely hoisted the man in distress. The MH-60T aircrew transported the individual to Olympia Regional Airport and transferred him to emergency medical services (EMS) personnel awaiting at land.
According to local authorities, the man had become separated from his watercraft the previous evening, spending over six hours trapped in the marsh wetland. Local rescue teams were unable to reach the survivor due to the unstable geographical nature of the area.
