SAN DIEGO — A Coast Guard Air Station San Diego MH-60T Jayhawk aircrew medevac a 60-year-old fisherman (male) from a fishing vessel approximately 115 nautical miles West of San Diego. Tuesday, July 2, 2024.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector San Diego Joint Harbor Operations Center received notification from a crewmember aboard the fishing vessel «Top Gun 80» at approximately 9:47 a.m., reporting that a passenger was having a seizure and drifting in and out of consciousness.
Coast Guard Sector San Diego watchstanders consulted with the duty flight surgeon, who determined that a medical evacuation to a higher level of care was necessary. A San Diego Fire STAR Medic was requested to accompany the Coast Guard MH-60T Jayhawk helicopter rescue swimmer.
The Air Station San Diego MH-60T Jayhawk Medium-Range Recovery Helicopter aircrew was launched at approximately 10:45 a.m. local with an estimated arrival time of 43 minutes. Once on the scene, the MH-60 Jayhawk MRR Helicopter aircrew deployed the rescue swimmer, successfully hoisted the patient and transferred him to emergency medical services (EMS) awaiting at Sector San Diego.
The patient was in stable condition and is being taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla for further evaluation.
